Still as a child, through the drawings, I was already trying to reproduce nature, mostly.... the horses. Till the age of thirteen, in the property of my father – Luis Felipe Teixeira Soares(in memmorian) I got the chance to be in touch with cattle, sheep of the Corriedale Race and Crioulo Horses. At this farm I had my first notions of the animal anatomy. Since I had to be away from this place, what happened still as a young boy, I miss the particular country way of life. So, I started sculpturing in clay the “memories” of such a lovely place. That was the beggining of a work that in fact was the “link” which allowed me never to be apart of my “gaúcha” essence, and that have never permitted me to renounce my passion for the horses of the Crioulo Race, just because, despite the circumstances, they have always accompanied me.

What I faced in the past as a hobby turned to be a serious job with a lot meaning to me. I truly believe that many people, just as I do, must have a nice feeling while seeing an image or object which brings them the good memories of their childhood.

What gives me motivation to pursue practicing this work is to “materialize” moments and then express in details things that only those people which had the chance to actually experience the daily routine in the country are able to describe. It is more than just give shape to the sculpture but to cultivate traditions and feelings I have for the horses and other things from the country. It is an attempt to show each person which get in touch to my work the proud I have to be a “gaúcho”.

aspéctos importantes em relação às obras/RELEVANT ASPECTS ABOUT THE SCULPTURES:

- THE WIRE: this material represents a mark between the “old” Rio Grande do Sul and the “current” one. By the application of this material in fences( delimiting properties) the landscape of the country has been changed as well as the country way of life, its customs and traditions.

- THE CRIOULO HORSE: a race of horse that is a symbol of Rio Grande do Sul and that is considered, since the time of the Brazilian Empire, one of the most precious belongings of the “gaúcho” , to which these people dedicates great attention and care.
